Im Gyeong-eop secretly planned to betray the Qing from INSIDE their own army

After Joseon was forced to submit to the Qing dynasty, Im Gyeong-eop was ordered to lead Korean troops to help the Qing attack Ming China. Instead, he secretly sent messages to Ming generals warning them of Qing troop movements. He was literally a double agent while commanding enemy forces. When the Qing found out, they demanded his execution. He was recalled to Korea and tortured to death. The man chose treason against the Qing over betraying what he saw as Korea's true ally. In an era of forced submission, Im Gyeong-eop said 'I'd rather die than actually help these guys.' Cold.
