Ahn Jung-geun's calligraphy written in prison is now worth more than most art collections
Everyone knows Ahn Jung-geun assassinated Ito Hirobumi at Harbin Station in 1909. But what most people don't know is that while awaiting execution, he became a calligraphy legend. Japanese prison guards, prosecutors, and even military officers were so impressed by his writing that they REQUESTED his calligraphy as personal keepsakes. He wrote over 200 pieces in prison. Each one stamped with his handprint — the one missing a finger that he'd cut off as a pledge of Korean independence. His prison calligraphy is now classified as national treasure-level art. The man was literally creating museum pieces while waiting to die. That's a different kind of composure.
