Ryu Seong-ryong wrote the most honest war memoir in Korean history and got cancelled for it

After the Imjin War, Ryu Seong-ryong wrote 'Book of Corrections' (Jingbirok) — basically a brutally honest account of how Korea screwed up. He didn't spare anyone, including himself. He admitted the government ignored warnings, the military was unprepared, and the court was too busy with factional politics to notice Japan was building an invasion fleet. The book was so honest that it made everyone look bad, so naturally Ryu got politically destroyed and spent his last years in retirement. But Jingbirok became one of the most important primary sources on the Imjin War. The man chose truth over his career. Actual king behavior from someone who wasn't even king.
