Okay hear me out. Gwanghaegun was navigating between a collapsing Ming Dynasty and a rising Manchu threat. His solution? Double agent diplomacy. He sent troops to help Ming (as required by their alliance) but secretly told his general Gang Hong-rip to surrender to the Manchu if things went south. Genius or shady? You decide. But after Injo's coup replaced him with a "loyal" king who went all-in on Ming, Korea got absolutely wrecked in the Manchu invasions of 1627 AND 1636. Maybe Gwanghaegun was right all along lmao.
