Kim Gu survived assassination, prison, and exile but couldn't survive Korean politics
Kim Gu's life reads like a thriller. Killed a Japanese man at 19 (who he believed was involved in Empress Myeongseong's assassination). Went to prison, escaped, became a monk, then a farmer, then a teacher, then THE leader of the Korean independence movement. Led the Korean Provisional Government in Shanghai for decades. Organized the famous Yun Bong-gil bombing in 1932 that put Korea on the international map. Survived multiple assassination attempts. Then after liberation, when he opposed the division of Korea, he was assassinated by a Korean army officer in 1949. The man who survived Japanese occupation was killed by his own countrymen. Korean history is brutal.
