Jeongjo built an entire fortress city just to visit his dad's grave. Dedication or obsession?
Jeongjo moved his father Sado's tomb to Suwon, then commissioned Hwaseong Fortress around it. We're talking a massive military fortress with cutting-edge technology — all because he wanted a proper spot to honor a father who died in a rice chest. He visited 13 times in his reign. The fortress is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Jeongjo was also lowkey one of the most reform-minded kings in Joseon — established the Gyujanggak royal library, promoted merit over bloodline. Top tier monarch ngl.
