Heo Nanseolheon's poetry was more famous in China than in Korea. During her lifetime.
Imagine being so talented that you're literally more famous abroad than at home — in the 1500s. Heo Nanseolheon was one of the greatest poets of the Joseon era, but as a woman, she had zero official recognition. Her brother Heo Gyun (yes, the Hong Gildong guy) sent her poems to a Chinese diplomat, and they went VIRAL in Ming China. A Chinese anthology of her work was published. Meanwhile in Joseon? She asked for all her writings to be burned before she died at 26. Tragic doesn't even begin to cover it.
