Introducing Age Flow: Watch Joseon Come Alive Year by Year
April 13, 2026
We're excited to introduce Age Flow, a brand-new way to experience Korean history on Sillok. Instead of reading static lists, you can now scroll through time itself — watching historical figures appear, grow old, and pass away as the centuries unfold.
What Is Age Flow?
Age Flow is an interactive timeline that maps every figure in our archive across a continuous year axis. Each person is represented as a horizontal bar spanning their birth to death year. As you scroll, figures enter and exit the view, giving you a vivid sense of who was alive at the same time and how their lives overlapped.
Think of it as a living tapestry of Korean history — from the ancient kingdoms through the Joseon dynasty and into the modern era.
Key Features
- Continuous scroll — Drag or scroll to move through centuries. The year counter updates in real time.
- Density bar — A minimap at the bottom shows where figures cluster, so you can jump to the busiest periods.
- Era filter — Focus on a specific dynasty or period with one click.
- Hover panels — Hover over any figure to see a quick bio, field tags, and linked artifacts.
- Relation lines — Connections between figures (family, allies, rivals) are drawn as colored lines.
- Event markers — Key historical events appear as dots on the dial bar, giving context to what was happening in each year.
- Artifact timeline — Scroll past a figure's lifetime and see the national treasures and cultural artifacts linked to that era.
How to Use It
Head over to the Age Flow page from the top navigation. Start scrolling from any point — try the 1500s to see the golden age of Joseon scholars, or jump to the 1590s to watch the Imjin War generation appear.
Click on any figure's bar to visit their full profile page with detailed biography, relations, and community threads.
What's Next
Age Flow is just the beginning. We're exploring additional layers like royal court positions, faction affiliations, and exile routes. If you have ideas for what you'd like to see on the timeline, start a thread and let us know.
