Syngman Rhee speedran the US education system and it's not even fair
So this guy was studying classical Chinese texts at a village school preparing for the civil service exam his whole childhood.
Then Korea abolished the exam system in 1894. Years of grinding — gone. Just like that.
So what did he do? Pivoted to a missionary school, picked up English, got thrown in prison, and STUDIED ENGLISH WITH A BIBLE IN HIS CELL for like 5 years lmao
Gets out. Goes to America. Then in 5 years:
George Washington BA → Harvard MA → Princeton PhD
His PhD advisor? Woodrow freaking Wilson. Who then became the President of the United States.
He was literally the first Korean to get a doctorate from an American university. Ever.
The man went from memorizing 千字文 to writing a Princeton dissertation in English. That's not a career change, that's a whole civilization speedrun.
