Sillok Is Now Open — A Community for Korean History, Heritage, and Everything In Between

March 24, 2026

Welcome to Sillok

We are thrilled to announce that Sillok is officially open.

Sillok is a community-driven archive and discussion platform dedicated to Korean history, historical figures, cultural heritage, and everything in between. Whether you are a casual history enthusiast, a dedicated scholar, or simply someone curious about Korea's rich past — this is your space.

What You Can Do Right Now

As of launch, Sillok features a growing catalog of historical figures, starting with:

  • All kings of the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392) — from Taejo Wang Geon to Gongyang, the last king
  • All kings of the Joseon dynasty (1392–1897) — from Taejo Yi Seong-gye to Sunjong
  • Select modern-era presidents who have passed away — including Syngman Rhee, Park Chung-hee, and Kim Dae-jung

Each figure has a dedicated page with biographical details, timelines, and contextual information. But here is where it gets interesting:

Threads & Discussions

Every figure page has an open discussion space where you can start threads, leave comments, and engage in conversations about that person's legacy, controversies, achievements, and historical impact. Think of it as a focused forum where history comes alive through community dialogue.

Want to debate whether Gwanghaegun was a tragic pragmatist or a ruthless ruler? Start a thread. Have a lesser-known fact about Sejong the Great's personal life? Share it. Curious about what daily life looked like under King Yeongjo's reign? Ask the community.

The discussion system supports nested replies, so conversations can branch naturally. Like a comment that adds valuable insight? Give it a thumbs up. Every interaction helps surface the best contributions.

We Need Your Help

Sillok is still in its early days, and we would love your input:

Request New Figures

Is there a historical figure you think should be on Sillok? We welcome all requests — whether it is a legendary admiral, a pioneering scholar, a revolutionary activist, or an unsung hero from any era of Korean history. Use the figure request feature on the site and we will review and add them as quickly as we can.

Report Inaccuracies

History is complex, and we want to get it right. If you spot any incorrect dates, misattributed events, or factual errors on any figure's page, please let us know. Accuracy is our top priority, and community fact-checking makes Sillok stronger for everyone.

Share Your Ideas

Have a feature idea that would make Sillok more useful or more fun? We are all ears. Maybe you envision:

  • Interactive relationship maps between historical figures
  • Curated reading lists for specific eras or themes
  • Side-by-side comparisons of contemporary rulers across dynasties
  • Community-driven timelines with collaborative editing
  • Artifact deep-dives connecting objects to the people who made or used them

Whatever it is — if it serves the community and enriches the experience of exploring Korean history, we want to hear about it.

What Is Coming Next

We have not run a single advertisement yet. Right now, our entire focus is on building quality — refining the platform, expanding the figure database, and fostering a welcoming community. Once we feel confident that the experience meets our standards, we will begin reaching out to a wider audience.

Here is what you can expect going forward:

  • Weekly articles — We plan to publish at least one article per week, covering historical deep-dives, platform updates, community highlights, and curated explorations of Korean heritage.
  • Expanded figure database — Beyond kings and presidents, we aim to cover scholars, generals, artists, activists, and cultural figures from every era of Korean history.
  • Enhanced features — Relationship graphs, artifact pages, curated collections, and more interactive ways to explore and connect with Korean history.

A Final Word

Sillok started as a simple idea: what if there were a single, beautiful, community-powered place to explore and discuss Korean history? Not a dry encyclopedia, not a social media free-for-all — but something in between. A place where history is treated with respect, but also with curiosity and liveliness.

We are just getting started, and the road ahead is long. But with your participation, your knowledge, and your passion for Korean history, we believe Sillok can become something truly special.

Thank you for being here from the beginning. We hope you enjoy Sillok — and please, make it your own.

With gratitude, The Sillok Team
